Home Sweet Home!

So I'm on a holiday away from home, or maybe I just reached home.

Is it possible to have two homes?

Well, having spent much more than half my life in Dubai, I've always considered Dubai to be my true home, my true 'place'. But Delhi was where I was born - it's my hometown. Technically a city but there's no need to be all precise:P.

I just realized the difference between your hometown and the place you stay at (referring to a city/town/country other than your hometown/home city/home country). A hometown is where you will always belong no matter what. It's a place you may not consider to be your true home but it's where you'll always be welcome. Like me, you could consider the place you stay at your true home. But the difference lies in the fact that you may not ALWAYS belong there. It's your personal home but on a macro level, you're not a citizen are you?

I love Dubai more than Delhi. It's a fact. But Delhi's still my hometown - I can rely on it. I know I'm personifying a city but whatever (that truly is the correct word to use).

I think this post was inspired from one of those feelings that arise after you return to a place after a long time, just to see how it's people have remained unchanged and you realize how you yourself have changed. That's actually a quote but I forgot by who. Oh well. Ah - and I'm referring to Delhi (which I'm sure people understood lol).

PS : Isn't that cartoon cute!

Hey Shaloopoo!

I know how you feel! I've said this before, but you're one of the only people to agree with me.
I really don't think Dubai's home for anyone.
My hometown will always be little Deltona, Florida even though I doubt I'll ever live there again.
The cartoon didn't load for some irritatingly disgusting reason :@ :@ :@ and MSN msngr isn’t working either. ughhhhh !! Anyways! Nice post shaloobee! Enjoy Delhi

PS: Where in Delhi? I stay in Pitampura/Gurgaon. Do you stay anywhere close by? I’m coming to Delhi sometime in d near future so maybe we can go SHOPPPPPPPPPNGG together =P
REPLY SOON!

Hello!

Well.. I don't exactly have a home in Delhi lol! But I'm staying with awesome family friends in Saket. My new house is under construction in Gurgaon though. So I'll be visiting - hopefully when you're around there:P. My old house is ..uhh.. under rent. Lol.

Thanks:D! Dubai is home for me. My home. But I know I can't be here forever whereas I know that Delhi is a place I can go to any day of any week of any month. I give weird explanations:S. Lol.

CARTOON IS WAY WAY TOO CUTE!! :P!!

I was thinking about this a few days back. Not exactly this, but something very related to it.

We all grew up learning that there was no difference between a home and a house. But if you look at it more carefully, you'll see that a house is a more materialistic view of the place you live, but a home is the undefinable, emotionally-attatched-thing thing. A home is where you belong, but a house is where you stay. I know, that both technically and literally, I make no sense whatsoever, but I don't know. When you first think about it, it does seem to click. A home can burn down due to fights, etc. or a fire, or something; but a house can only do so because of the latter. A home is a more metaphorical state of the word.

I know I may have contradicted myself in many ways, but a home isn't the same as a house; and I think that's what you were trying to imply.

Keep up the good posts.

With all due respect to the blogauthor and her audience,

What is a home?
I look upon a 'home' as a metaphysical state of mind. Forget the physical parameters. You're personal home is created in your mind by your thoughts. Your home is an assimilation of your emotions, your environment, the sights you want to see, the sounds you want to hear, your preferred personality, etc. Your home is created , I think, by your reactions to, and interpretations of the external world. You in your individuality have to define your parameters to the world for a home can only be yours exclusively. Your home might be very similar to that of X, Y or Z but it will never be the same because you are a distinct individual.

So we'll all change. Some for better, some for worse but let us accept that we will change. Now in all these myriad changes, how does anyone remember who he is and what his relationship was with the outside world? You see, when a person conceptualizes his home, he determines (sub-consciously perhaps) who he is, what his purpose is, etc and also within that home, he would have created the ideal environment from which he can derive the energy he needs to fulfill that purpose. In order to remember that purpose and revitalize one's self, I believe that a home must necessarily remain a constant entity. A home is a reflection of that part of the mind to which I can turn and from which I can derive strength and direction. My home engenders me.

Therein lies the importance of a home.

Adhitya,

I really like your view on the meaning of 'a home'. Your comment was very thought-provoking and very much appreciated:).

Thanks! And please continue expressing your views because I love reading 'em!

Lived in Dubai for 14 or well 15 years now and it really is a great place to live in as long as u realise your real home is still India.

I havent ever lived in India but you never know where life may take you. Delhis a really nice place but dont go exploring too much in Delhi, Delhi iss all about meeting up wid family wheres Mumbai on the other hand is full of exploring and stuff .

I look forward to going back to India even though i know people who dont for some strange reason.
